With
a
philosophy
“Language
and
Culture
are
key
elements
in
solving
problems
and
developing
society”,
RILCA
realizes
that
language
is
a
tool
of
literacy
and
education
for
ethnic
groups.
Therefore,
Language
development
and
management
is
a
crucial
mechanism
in
achieving
the
Millennium
Development
Goals.
The
Research
Institute
for
Languages
and
Cultures
of
Asia
at
Mahidol
University
together
with
UNESCO,
UNICEF,
SIL
International,
Southeast
Asian
Ministers
of
Education
Organization
(SEAMEO),
Save
the
Children,
CARE,
Asia
South
Pacific
Association
For
Basic
and
Adult
Education
(ASPBE),
Asian
Institute
of
Technology
and
Royal
Thai
Institute,
held
an
international
conference
on
"Language,
Education
and
the
Millennium
Development
Goals"
from
November
9th
to
11th,
2010
at
Twin
Towers
Hotel,
Bangkok,
Thailand.
H.E.
Abhisit
Vejjajiva,
the
Prime
Minister
of
Thailand
presided
over
the
opening
ceremony
and
gave
a
welcoming
