กลุ่มวิจัย “ความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมและสุขภาวะ” (Cultural Diversity and Well-being: CDWe) เป้าหมายของกลุ่มวิจัยระยะสั้นในช่วง 4 ปี (2564-2567) สนใจผลพวงของความแตกต่างทางวัฒนธรรมที่เกิดจากการย้ายถิ่นและการเปลี่ยนแปลงโครงสร้างประชากรสู่สังคมสูงอายุ ที่สัมพันธ์กับสุขภาวะของบุคคลและสังคมในมิติต่างๆ ซึ่งเป็นความท้าทายในศตวรรษที่ 21 โดย ใช้มุมมองทางวัฒนธรรมเพื่อสร้างความเข้มแข็งทางวิชาการและนำไปสู่ข้อเสนอแนะเชิงนโยบายและการจัดการที่เกี่ยวข้องกับความแตกต่างทางวัฒนธรรมที่คงไว้ซึ่งความสงบเรียบร้อย ความสมานฉันท์ สิทธิมนุษยชนและสิทธิทางวัฒนธรรม รวมทั้งเสนอมุมมองที่เป็นโอกาสในการพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจจากการย้ายถิ่นในบริบทไทยเชื่อมสู่สากล

มุ่งวิจัยการบูรณาการองค์ความรู้ด้านการสื่อสารทั้งในโลกกายภาพและโลกเสมือนกับศาสตร์อื่นๆ เพื่อเสริมสร้างสุขภาวะที่ดี เสริมพลังคนไทยและชุมชนให้เกิดความเข้มแข็ง และสร้างผลกระทบทั้งในแง่ของการสร้างความเปลี่ยนแปลงระดับบุคคล ชุมชน และสังคมอย่างยั่งยืน ตลอดจนสร้างองค์ความรู้ใหม่ให้กับวงวิชาการและการวิจัยด้านการสื่อสารเพื่อการเปลี่ยนแปลงและการสื่อสารแบบมีส่วนร่วม

Aesthetics and Sociology of Culture

This cluster focuses on the interdisciplinary exchanges of members working in different areas related to texts (film, translated literature, media and arts), spaces (with the focus on the border-crossing between Thailand and Southeast Asia and beyond), and critical questions on power politics and sociology of culture. Members of the clusters have conducted research on fan/cinephile culture of East Asian cinema, film production studies, new film history, translated literature from/into Thai, games studies, practices and cultures of ethnic minorities in Thailand and generational mobility. Individual researchers received funding from Mahidol University, Thailand Research Fund, National Research Council of Thailand and British Academy.

Starting in 2019, members of the cluster also aim to work together each year under the shared thematic research enquiries and exchanges. Between 2019-2021, all three founding members co-supervised theses and organized various seminars that foster the shared research interests in cross-border cultures and postcolonial thoughts in Asia. The members agreed to write a paper each under this theme, which would contribute to the wider reflections for gaps and future works in postcolonial research works in relation to film, media, translated literature and cross-border cultures in the context of Thailand and Southeast Asia.
In 2022, the research cluster expands the focus to broader questions of Area Studies that intersect with film cultures, translated literature, and tourism culture/urban studies.

Ethnicity, Museum, and Social Innovation

กลุ่มวิจัยภาและวัฒนธรรมกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ ก่อตั้งมาตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2550 โดยยึดมั่นในพันธกิจการสร้างความเป็นเลิศทางวิชาการ เพื่อสร้างประโยชน์สุขให้แก่กลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ด้วยการวิจัย การจัดการเรียนการสอน และการบริการสังคมอย่างมีส่วนร่วมที่แท้จริงกับชุมชนชาติพันธุ์ต่าง ๆ ทั่วประเทศ งานวิจัยด้านชาติพันธุ์นับเป็นความเชี่ยวชาญอันแท้จริงของสถาบันฯ ตั้งแต่อดีตและยังสืบต่อไปในอนาคต กลุ่มวิจัยนี้ได้รวบนักวิจัยที่มีความสามารถเป็นเลิศ มีความชำนาญในสาขาวิชาต่าง ๆ ได้แก่ ภาษาศาสตร์ สังคมวิทยา มานุษยวิทยา นิเทศศาสตร์ จิตวิทยา วัฒนธรรมศึกษา สมาชิกกลุ่มวิจัยฯ พร้อมจะอุทิศตนทำงานในลักษณะบูรณาการงานร่วมกัน ในอีก 5 ปี ข้างหน้า กลุ่มวิจัยฯ จะมุ่งเน้นการทำวิจัยพื้นฐานและงานวิจัยเชิงประยุกต์เพื่อสร้างนวัตกรรม โดยยึดมั่นปรัชญาที่ว่า "ความสำเร็จที่แท้จริง อยู่ที่การนำความรู้ไปประยุกต์ใช้เพื่อประโยชน์ของสังคม

กลุ่มประเด็นข้ามชาติและพลวัตทาง(พหุ)วัฒนธรรมในอาเซียน, อินเดียและเอเชียแปซิฟิก" เป็นกลุ่มวิจัยที่พัฒนามาจากกลุ่มวิจัยที่ทำงานภายใต้เครือข่ายมหาวิทยาลัยไทยคลัสเตอร์อาเซียน ซึ่งมีการทำงานร่วมกับคณะสถาบันในมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล คือ คณะสังคมศาสตร์และมนุษยศาสตร์ สถาบันสิทธิมนุษยชนและสันติศึกษา และเครือข่ายภายนอกภายใต้มหาวิทยาลัยวิจัยไทย และคณะสังคมสงเคราะห์ศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ คณะมนุษยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ และคณะโบราณคดี มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร กลุ่มมีการทำงานต่อเนื่องก่อนการตั้งกลุ่มวิจัยนี้ โดยเป้าหมายในการทำงานวิจัยพื้นฐานและงานวิจัยเชิงประยุกต์เพื่อสร้างนวัตกรรม และสร้างเครือข่ายการวิจัยทั้งในประเทศและต่างประเทศ

Chinese - Thai Studies (CTS)

จีนเป็นประเทศมหาอำนาจที่มีอิทธิพลต่อเศรษฐกิจและความมั่นคงของโลกในยุคปัจจุบัน อีกทั้งยังมีความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตกับไทยมาอย่างยาวนานเป็นเวลากว่า 47 ปี (ตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2518) สำหรับสถาบันวิจัยภาษาและวัฒนธรรมเอเชีย ได้เปิดให้บริการวิชาการจัดการเรียนการสอนให้กับนักศึกษาจีนมาเป็นเวลากว่า 5 ปี และประสบความสำเร็จได้รับการยอมรับจากนักศึกษาจีนเป็นอย่างยิ่ง ทางกลุ่มวิจัยจึงได้ก่อตั้งกลุ่มจีน-ไทยศึกษาขึ้นมา โดยมุ่งเน้นการศึกษาวิจัยในลักษณะสหวิทยาการ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับประเด็นเชื่อมโยงระหว่างประเทศจีนและประเทศไทย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเรื่องภาษา วัฒนธรรม ความเชื่อ ความศรัทธา อาหาร ประวัติศาสตร์ การเมือง การปกครอง เศรษฐกิจหรือสภาพสังคมต่างๆ การอพยพย้ายถิ่น ที่เกี่ยวกับชาวจีนในไทยและภูมิภาคเอเชีย หรือชาวไทยในจีนตอนใต้ เพื่อมุ่งหวังให้เกิดองค์ความรู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการศึกษาเรื่องจีน-ไทย ก่อให้เกิดความรู้ที่เอื้อประโยชน์ต่อการพัฒนาศักยภาพของนักวิจัยในกลุ่ม ตลอดจนขยายผลไปสู่การพัฒนาศักยภาพในการจัดบริการวิชาการและต่อยอดการนำผลงานวิจัยไปใช้ประโยชน์ การชี้แนะเชิงนโยบาย อีกทั้งยังเป็นการแลกเปลี่ยนเรียนรู้ และขยายเครือข่ายไปยังนักวิชาการผู้สนใจศึกษาเรื่องจีน-ไทยศึกษาในบริบทต่างๆจากทุกภูมิภาคของโลก นอกจากนี้ยังมีการจัดเสวนาให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับวิถีปฏิบัติ ประเพณี ศิลปกรรม จิตกรรม วรรณกรรมจีน อาหารที่เชื่อมโยงกับวัฒนธรรมจีนแลอื่นๆ เพื่อให้ความรู้แก่บุคคลทั่วไปด้วย

Art For Public

This research cluster is interested in exploring meanings of public art through creative process, meaning-making, languages and cultures, public space, and exhibition. We emphasize on collaboration among scholar, artists, and community, cultural landscape, urban design, and diverse communities. In addition, we focus on restoring the environment through art, improving community environment, and supporting for community activities. We also support community inclusion and awareness of cultural identities, social networks, and social integration through processes of participation, knowledge sharing and social change. We employ relational aesthetics that aims at collaborative creativity and support for diverse community cultures. We work with a variety of methods and multidiscipline as well as focus on sustainabledevelopment (SDGs). Our ongoing projects include Art for public project: Creative art for new appropriate social and cultural movement post COVID-19, Bridging the gen gap: Mobilization of media surveillance and literacy for pre-aging and aging populations through cultural dimensions, Youth capacity enhancement in the revitalization and value enriching of heritage language and cultural knowledge, Heritage restoration, creative innovation, and capacity enhancement in the preservation and revitalization of local heritage language and culture among local youth, and Music across generations: A project to promote intergenerational relationships and well-being through music.
